16 April 2013 - Stocksbridge Park Steels v FC United Of Manchester

Our second visit of the season to Bracken Moor, home of Stocksbridge Park Steels.  Originally arranged for New Year's Day, we were looking forward to this fixture since it was released. Park Steels were on the back of a three match winning run that helped considerably in their battle against relegation from the EvoStik Northern Premier League, Premier Division. FCUM had lost only one from their previous six games. Ultimately, this win for FCUM helped them reach third place in the League, but were denied promotion by defeat to Hednesford Town. Both clubs will meet again in the 2013/14 season, hopefully we'll be at The Look Local Stadium once again to photograph the day/night.

A comprehensive 4-0 victory for Mark Shaw's team takes them above Athersley Recreation to the top of the league and leaves Rossington Main looking down on the relegation zone in the battle for safety at the foot of the NCEL Division One.

Volunteers, essential at this level of football walk away for home after taking down the nets and pulling up the goalposts at Oxford Street.

09 January 2013 - Shirebrook Town v Athersley Recreation

There's something oddly romantic, yet oddly intimidating about being one of the first people into a football ground.  We arrived at Shirebrook Town as the ground was in total darkness, the only light came from the Hospitality Suite (pictured below).  The starkness on a bitter January evening gave the Langwith Road ground a "Cold Waresque" feel, the temperature that night wasn't going to improve much on it's just above freezing mark.

Adding drama to the scene, Langwith Road felt like a Prisoner Of War camp until the club's Vice-Chairman switched on the floodlights (below).

This was the best match of the season so far for atmosphere at a No Clash Of Colours featured match.  The Town lads knew that if they could beat the top of the table Athersley Recreation, they'd go to the top of the league.  The bottom photograph shows Town supporters celebrating after going ahead, 1-0 through Jordan Lemon..  This didn't last long as Athersley Recreation stormed back to take a 2-1 half time lead through goals by Adam White and Stephen Bennett. A 65th minute Robert Ludlum own goal sealed the points a 3-1 win for Athersley Recreation, which kept them in pole position in the race to the NCEL Premier League.
