16 March 2013 - Parkgate v Scarborough Athletic

Always a pleasure to visit Roundwood Complex, as is shown on our previous visits this season. Today's visitors were top of the NCEL Premier League, Scarborough Athletic. Currently on a twelve match unbeaten run, Parkgate were the next opponents for Rudy Funk's "Seadogs". A 4-2 victory for the soon to be crowned League Champions, with two goals from Jimmy Beadle, Ryan Blott's 35th of the season and a first for recent signing, Bryan Hughes.

Special Thanks to all the people at Parkgate FC who have made No Clash Of Colours very welcome at every fixture we've covered.

Attendance : 254 (Highest Of The Season)

Against the industrial backdrop, both sets of players in their pre-match warm up. Roundwood Complex is also home to newly promoted to the Football League Division One, Rotherham United.

The largest NCEL Premier Division crowd at Parkgate this season.

The promotion of Scarborough Athletic to the EvoStik NPL will ultimately deprive many clubs in the NCEL a decent payday, an excellent away following at this level of football puts hundreds of pounds into the home club's coffers, be it from programme sales to money behind the bar. A crowd of over 250 could well have lead to their being a four figure sum in the home club's account by full time on this Saturday.

Jimmy Beadle

Scorer of the second and fourth 'Borough goals. He was to eventually end the season on eleven goals from thirteen appearances (excluding substitutes).

Visible above the goal is a safety netting, this runs all the way across the goal area, helping keep the tea-ladies and snackbar volunteers safe from any wayward shot or blazing penalty miss!

"Seadogs", that's the nickname of Scarborough Athletic, not a description of these Scarborough Athletic supporters I may add, have seen it all before. Their club, 0-2 down after just thirteen minutes.

Winning the meat raffle may console the Scarborough Athletic supporters after an abject first half performance. Little did they know what was to follow in the next forty-five minutes!

Reminisced about the days of Len Badger, Tony Currie, Alan Woodward, fell out the Football League direction and now regularly attends Cannon Park and Retford United away games.

Prophetic words ... "The reason why the Football League clubs don't publicise the local non-league scene is simply because of fear. A fear that stems from the belief that once "their" supporters taste the non-league football scene, they'll stay there and won't return to highly inflated admission prices, pampered celebrity, front page tabloid footballers, because what they see at non league, is honest football, played for little or no financial rewards. You can stand at Retford, have a drink in the clubhouse, smoke on the terraces, things that the working class supporter has done for years at football grounds up and down the country on a Saturday afternoon from 3.00pm onwards"
