05 May 2013 - Clifton All Whites v AFC Mansfield

Will Heath, Ben Moore, Rob Gill & David Hawkes celebrate the All Whites
1-0 victory
This wasn't a "Lazy Sunday Afternoon" down at The Impact Arena, home of Alfreton Town. Two teams battling for the Baris Central League Cup, in the red corner, AFC Mansfield, who ended the season as runners-up in the Black Dragon (North), missing out on promotion to Dronfield Town. In the white corner, Clifton All Whites, who in the semi-final had beaten the Town from Dronfield 3-1, were hoping to fare better in their 50th year since formation, than last season when losing to, yes you guessed, Dronfield Town!  A feisty affair, AFC Mansfield ended the final with nine men, maybe referee Tim Walker had spent a few moments reading the matchday programme's half-time quiz page, "Early Baths" ?!! There was a brilliantly saved penalty and a 92nd minute winner for supporters to remember, which was about all their was as the heat and a long season played a major part in the afternoon's football on show.

22 April 2013 - Askern Villa v Albion Sports

The relegation of Askern Welfare was all but confirmed as Albion Sports ran out comfortable 4-0 winners. This was our second visit to Manor Way, we were there to see the other NCEL Division One promotion contender, Athersley Recreation. That day Askern Villa defeated the visitors 3-1 which was their last ever victory in the NCEL, those days though had long since gone and the club was almost at the end of a miserable 27 match losing streak. The return fixture saw Albion Sports run out 9-1 winners and after less than thirty minutes, that score looked not only achievable but possibly bettered.

A Thursday night "Cup Shock" in Nostell. Home of the Miners Welfare, NCEL Premier League. A Northern Counties East League Cup Semi-Final, Louth Town of the NCEL Division One, the visitors making a 170 mile round trip, the match ended 3-3. With no goals in extra time, the penalty shootout went the way of the "White Wolves", 4-3. Daryl Clare's troops would meet Thackley AFC in the Final at Staveley Miners Welfare on May Day. Could they beat another club from a higher division?
