19 January 2013 - AFC Emley v Hadleigh United

We'd planned on making the AFC Emley v Hadleigh United, FA Vase 4th Round clash our featured match for Saturday, 19 Januray 2013. It was to be our first ever visit to The Welfare Ground. Unfortunately, the snow fell and we were restricted in travelling on the day.  Fortunately, we were in contact with Mark Parsons, AFC Emley supporter and photographer who kindly sent these photographs to us and allowed us to show the sights and atmosphere from a desolated, wintry scene from the West Yorkshire ground.

In the distance, one mile west of Emley, the Emley Moor transmitting station standing at 1084ft tall is the UK's tallest free-standing structure.

The match was then rearranged to be played the following Saturday, 26 January, unfortunately this was also postponed due to an unplayable surface.  The match finally took place on Saturday 02 February, with the Suffolk based club holding onto a 1-0 victory.

14 November 2012 - Maltby Main v Winterton Rangers

Financial Funding - Maltby Colliery opened in 1907 and is currently,

the only working coal-mine that is open in Rotherham.

Where every comment made by the "hardcore" Maltby Main supporter is heard by the players and officials and those who manage the teams.... Not for the faint hearted.

All voluntarily - without these people in the background, and every club i've visited so far, have men and women like this, maintaining the club, looking after the supporters of both clubs and doing it for the "love" ...

Maltby Main attack then score to go 2-1 ahead after being 0-1 down.

Even the bright lights of international football couldn't deter this Maltby Main regular from taking up his standing point at Muglet Lane. Whilst England were losing 2-4 to Sweden live on the tv, a crowd of 40 paid their money (no season tickets allowed) to see a good performance from the Maltby Men in Red.

27 October 2012 - Askern Villa v Athersley Rec

Prior to the match, I was told that the club had been burgled yet again. Hence the panels on the inside of the window frames.  Struggling as a club financially, Askern Villa are one of those clubs that won't let the "minor inconvenience" of another break-in stop them from playing top of the table Athersley Rec.

16 October 2012 - Hemsworth Miners Welfare v Bottesford Town

The above memorial bench, situated at The Fitzwilliam Stadium in honour of long standing club secretary, Mark Crapper.  Mark, who sadly passed away earlier this year was instrumental in the reforming of Hemsworth Miners Welfare at The Fitzwilliam Stadium in 1981.

rained off until the following day, drawing 1-1 in Poland.
