04 May 2013 - Athersley Recreation v AFC Emley

Athersley Recreation, their final NCEL Division One game of a promotion winning campaign. With the season extended by a week due to the severe buildup of match postponements, this was a game when The Penguins from Sheerien Park, often dubbed "San Sheerien" could relax and take it easy. The visitors AFC Emley had in their ranks, Mark Wilson, who two days previously had made his 900th appearance in non league football. A 1 0 victory courtesy of a 70th minute Jason Bentley goal took Athersley Recreation to 85 points and runners-up to already promoted as Champions, Albion Sports.  Success breeds success and after two local grassroots finals in the week [with a third to follow], promotion in their very first season in the NCEL was the icing on the cake.

End Of An Era?
Mark Wilson [AFC Emley] leads the team off after completing over 900 appearances at eighteen clubs (needs verification)  in a non league career that saw him come off the bench and play for Emley at Upton Park against West Ham United in a 1-2 defeat in the 1998 FA Cup.

29 April 2013 - Athersley Recreation v Redbrook New Inn

Not only being content with achieving promotion from the NCEL Division One at the first time of asking, Athersley Recreation FC had also fought their way thru' to three local FA Cup Finals, two to be held at Oakwell, home of Barnsley FC and the the third and final of the finals at Bramall Lane, Sheffield United. This was our first ever opportunity to photograph inside the Oakwell Stadium,  our second followed just three nights later when both teams in tonight's Final would also contest the Barnsley FA Hospital Cup Final.

10 April 2013 - Sheffield Hallam University v Sheffield University

The second of two matches that took place at Hillsborough on April 10 for our latest feature.  This was the "Big One" in the Varsity Football matches.  Having already won the Varsity for the first time in ten years, Sheffield University could finish the 2013 event on a high at Hillsborough and do what their female counterparts failed to achieve earlier in the afternoon.  A crowd of over 3200 made Hillsborough feel like it was full to capacity with the noisy atmosphere created by both sets of supporters.
