08 May 2013 - Athersley Recreation v Handsworth Turf Tavern

Athersley Recreation v Handsworth Turf Tavern
Our season was coming to a close, the local grassroots Cup Finals were coming thick and fast. Tonight we were at Bramall Lane, Sheffield United. It was primarily with The Blades that we cut our teeth in the football photography world.  We'd had the great pleasure of photographing such footballing greats as TC [Tony Currie], BT [James Beattie], Captain Marvel [Bryan Robson] and Pele [Edson Arantes do Nascimento] all within S2 4SU.

Athersley Recreation had already won two Sunday League Cup Finals, previously featured on No Clash Of Colours, tonight they would again be successful, beating Handsworth Turf Tavern 2-1. After a slow first half, the match exploded in the second forty-five as Athersley Recreation raced into a two goal lead courtesy of a brace from Eddie Hague.  Handsworth Turf Tavern pulled a goal back from a Mark Ward free kick and almost levelled in the final minute but The Penguins from Sheerien Park held out and Anthony Smith, the Athersley Recreation captain raised a trophy for the third time within ten days.

07 May 2013 - Sheffield FC [U21] v Dronfield Town FC [U21]

Our first year of non league, grassroots, women's and junior football photography features was almost drawing to a close, this was the No Clash Of Colours 77th feature from our debut season. One of the most exciting matches we were fortunate to cover was this Under 21 Meadowhall League Cup Final, held on a bright and warm spring evening at the superb ProAct Stadium, the home of Chesterfield FC.

Sheffield FC and their Under-21 counterparts from Dronfield Town served up some cracking football in a local derby that will be remembered for years by those that were there.  With both clubs beating each other in the League, it wasn't an easy match to predict. In the semi-finals, Sheffield FC had beaten Greasborough FC [U21] 5-4 after extra time, Dronfield Town had put five goals past Woodhouse JFC without conceding. Within a week of the defeat tonight, the U21 side from Dronfield Town would be celebrating the winning of the League.
